- Relief shown by hachures. Sheets 1 and 2 of copy 1 are joined to form one map. Buildings and tombs for six periods, shown by colors: Pre-Abbasid and Tulunid period: 212-292 A.H. (827- 904 A.D.) ; Faṭimid and Faṭimid periods: 358-567 A.H. (969-1171 A.D.) ; Aiyūbid period: 567-648 A.H. (1171-1250 A.D. ); Baḥrite Mameluke period: 648-784 A.H. (1250-1382 A.D.) ; Circassian Mameluke period: 784-923 A.H. (1382-1517 A.D.) ; Turkish period: 923-1265 A.H. (1517-1848 A.D.) ; Post Turkish period: 1265-1364 A.H. (1848-1945 A.D.). Monuments are numbered on the map to agree with the official plates posted on their sites given by the Antiquities Department of Egypt.
