- "Note: The East coast (not included in Mr. Stewart's original map) has been inserted chiefly from observations taken by Dr. Laws, as delineated by Mr. Cotterill in his map of Nyassa accompanying Captn. Elton's 'Travels & Researches among the Lakes and Mountains of Eastern and Central Africa.'" Route of Dr. Laws and Mr. Stewart is shown. Relief shown by hachures and spot heights.
