A Iohanne Gabriele Doppelmaiero Math. PP. opera Ioh. Bapt. Homanni S.C.M. Geogr. California shown as an unlabeled island with no place names. The island has two very deep bays on the seaward side, nearly cleaving it in two. The map has very few markings except those points shown in the charts above and below the map. The astronomically-derived points of latitude and longitude are noted in the charts along with the relevant observer. The cherubs below the map are using contemporary instruments to record the transit of Jupiter's moons (top left), an eclipse of the sun (top center), and an eclipse of the moon (top right). Textual cartouche in the eastern hemisphere tells the difference of 22 1/2 degrees between the Isle of Fero meridian and the Paris meridian. Issued in his Atlas Novus Coelestis.
