This polygon dataset shows boundaries for major municipalities in Mexico.
This dataset is part of the most current version of INEGI's "Marco Geostatistico Nacional," or National Geostatistical Framework, Mexico's system for census mapping that was first implemented in 1978. The system divides the country into geostatistical areas with identifiable boundaries. These geostatistical areas have three levels of disaggregation: State (AGEE), Municipal (AGEM) and Basic (AGEB), which may be designated as urban or rural. Municipality Boundaries Mexico 2013 is at the AGEM level.
The Geostatistical Framework information is an aid in the distinction between states and municipalities, especially in places where political administrative boundaries are undefined.
Note: Concerning the Municipalities - Mezcalapa, El Parral, Emiliano Zapata and Belisario Dominguez -. Chiapas State, created by Decree No. 008, published in the official newspaper of the Government of the State of Chiapas on November 23, 2011, it is reported that , in response to the suspension by the Supreme Court of Justice by agreement dated December 20, 2012, in Incident Suspension Constitutional Controversy 121/2012, these new municipalities are not included in the National Geostatistical Framework and in the Single State Key catalog Geostatistical Areas, Municipal and Resorts, until such time as the Supreme Court of Justice resolved as appropriate
